Alabama ARES 2006 Simulated Emergency Test
SET Scenario

The SET this year will follow a scenario of an earthquake. Local mobile operators will be asked to check and report on the status of bridges and overpasses that have been selected by the EC and/or EMA ahead of time. These reports solicited by Emergency Drill nets on the local VHF/UHF repeaters and will be passed via the AEN on 3965 to the Net Control at the State EOC in Clanton by OES or HF liaison stations monitoring those repeaters. The drill is currently scheduled for 10 am on Saturday October 7 and will last from one to two hours.

This drill should allow Technician and higher class hams to work together on the drill. The reports should be given by hams who actually are looking at or traveling over the particular bridge or overpass. In Montgomery, I would suggest the I-65 Alabama River Bridge, the I-85/I-65 Flyover and perhaps a train trestle. In Huntsville, The I-65 Tennessee Riber bridge and perhaps of Memorial Drive. In Mobile, The Bayway, Causeway and Tunnels. In Tuscaloosa, all of the River bridges, as well as the interstate exit overpasses. St.Clair should monitor the Logan Martin Bridges and dams. Y'all get the idea. The EMA may suggest others of importance in your area. The report that a bridge is "Up" will not make any difference to the drill, but the local EC/EMA may declare one or two "Down" to spice up the state net.

After the Drill, each EC will forward to their DEC a count of the hams involved in their county. sec@arrl-al.org

Morgan County is involving the SET in a CERT Graduation drill, so the information coming into the state EOC will be different in their case.

The preamble will be as follows:
